Exploring the living past

Itinerary for 8 days and 7 nights


1st day - Arrival in Warsaw. Transfer from the airport, touring of Jewish monuments including the former Ghetto area, the Nozyk Synagogue, Mita 18 St., UmschlagPlatz, Korczak's Orphanage, Genscher Cemetery and the Jewish Historical Institute. Warsaw with its reconstructed historic landmarks dating back to the 14th Century.

2nd day - Departure form Warsaw to Tykocin, a shtetl in north eastern Poland. Visit 17th Century Baroque synagogue, one of the most beautiful in Poland. On the way back to Warsaw, visit the Treblinka Death Camp.

3rd day - Leave Warsaw for Lublin. On the way, a visit to the famous city of Kazimierz Dolny and its typical "shtetl architecture". Sightseeing of Jewish monuments in Lublin including the oldest cemetery in Poland and the famous Yeshivat Hochmey Lublin - the first modern yeshivah building.

4th day - Visit to the Majdanek Concentration Camp and full day of sightseeing through Galicia, on the way to Cracow. Visit to the Palace of Lancut - a unique example of the 18th Century Gentry architecture and newly restored Lancut synagogue.

5th day - Cracow - sightseeing of Jewish section of Cracow - Kazimierz with its historical landmarks (Remuh and Alte Synagogues, cemetery and many others). Visit to the former Ghetto area. In the afternoon, explore the rest of Cracow including the famous Wawel Castle - former site of Polish kings and Old Town area.

6th day - Full day at Auschwitz-Birkenau .

7th day - Leave for Warsaw. On the way visit to Kielce, site of the infamous pogrom of July 4 1946.

8th day - Departure from Warsaw. Optional - additional sightseeing of the city.
